Today starts in San Jose, CA |
Places Visited Along The Way, Photos, and Notes |
I left home exactly at 9:00 As I traveled down Hwy-85 I was thinking two thoughts How nice it is to be riding, and How long a trip this is going to be Well, long journeys begin with a single step so here I go The morning clouds seemed to be zig-zagging across the sky And the airliners were carving their paths in the blue It is still Spring enough for the hills to be green San Louis Reservoir on Hwy-152 is absolutely full |
My first stop was in
Los Banos I stopped in a Carl's Jr for a mid-morning breakfast sandwich A nice place with '50s decore, clean and well lit |
Hwy-152 between I-5 and US-99 is straight and well, boring This is what I had to look at for the duration GPS reads 36 miles to go to get to Madera, map shows road is straight Those of you with a sharp eye will notice a number reflected in the spedometer glass - 130(something, something) without reading further did you guess? It is the reflection of my SHOEI helmet label - backwards |
I previously had an "M" county for Monterey, but I did not like
it So I stopped in Madera for Madera County Across the street is the Madera City Hall with a currently dry fountain out front |
Fresno,
Fresno County has two HD dealers I have visited one and today the other Mathews Harley-Davidson Upstairs they have a sizeable museum of old HD bikes and various momorabilia. Really worth a visit It was hard to find a photo-op for Fresno County but I finally came across the Office of Education I may try to get another photo for an "F" county later |
One of my friends (J.W.) tells me that in my various travels there are lots of train photos. So this is for him |
In
Visalia,
for a
Tulare County photo, I found the Tulare County Sheriff`s Office 2404 W Burrel Ave (county T) I guess the sheriff is also the coroner Although I have visited Visalia Harley-Davidson a couple of times in the past, I stopped by again There were three elderly gents wearing HD shirts We had a very fun conversation about rides and places we each have visited. Merlin, Bill, and I did not catch the third gentleman's name, he was in the restroom when we were swapping introductions Alas, the bane of us older fellas Visalia HD has a large electric train layout in the front window What fun |
Bakersfield,
Kern County I visited Bakersfield Harley-Davidson last before they had poker chips. So I stopped in again I-99 exit 31, east on Merle Haggard Dr with a monument out front Kern County Administrative Office 1115 Truxtun Avenue |
Bakersfield was 105 degrees and it was only a little after 4:00 So I decided to push on to Tehachapi County, CA Maybe it will help tomorrow if I can get through much of the desert in the AM I arrived and first thing headed to a McD for a tall iced tea Out front were three fellows with their bikes and of course we talked They are up from Ventura just for an out and back ride, returning tomorrow I headed into the heart of Tehachapi and there was a farmers market going on I parked nearby and took the opportunity for a pregancy test Thankfully, it came out negative There was something for everyone. A local brewer, so I tasted his wares And for my Niece (D) a friendly pug There is an old theater (theatre?) with a painted-on audience A nice Best Western and soon to sleep |
